It appears that Ambrose moved to North Carolina after his first wife's death (Laurens Graham). She died in 1917 and he is in Chadburn, NC in the 1920 census.

The census page before this one if full of Grainger's: Elva(60), Samuel (47), Dwight (44), Frederick (52), John (27) - all own farms. The following pages have a few Grahams and Harrelsons who own farms. Ambrose's Mom is a Harrelson and his wife's Mom is a Grainger. Ambrose's wife is a Graham.
In this census, Ambrose and Purgfy are brothers living next door to each other. They married two Graham sisters, Laurens and Olympas. Dalma Graham (two doors down) is another Graham sister who is the head of the household since Kenneth Asbury died in 1883. I don't know where Avy (Kenneth's wife) is...maybe living with a son? |

There are no stories at this time.
Ambrose was born during the Civil War. There were several battles fought near Horry co, SC in Brunswick Co, NC around this time in history. They say you could hear the bombardment of Charleston from Horry county. Around 90% of Horry County's white male population fought in the Civil War and the Union Army occupied the county's seat in 1865. Many children died from a diphtheria epidemic during the war and towards the end of the war there were many deserters raiding the countryside.
